GSMA nominates BroadForward and Voiceworks in the category Best Mobile Technology

The Dutch companies BroadForward and Voiceworks have been nominated for the prestigious Global Mobile Awards 2015

Almere, 6 February 2015 – GSMA has nominated BroadForward and Voiceworks for “Unlocking 4G for MVNO’s” in the category “Best solution for growing smaller or independent networks”. The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide and companies in the mobile ecosystem, such as smartphone manufacturers, software and internet companies.

The winners will be announced by actor John Cleese on March 3rd during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The MWC is the world’s biggest mobile exhibition, attended by more than 85.000 visitors every year.

Voiceworks was the first Dutch Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) to offer 4G in September 2014. Before that Voiceworks and hundreds of operators could not connect with 4G / LTE networks without expensive upgrades because of the old-generation HLRs (pre-3GPP release 8). BroadForward has developed a unique solution in close cooperation with Voiceworks that removes these limitations. Now Voiceworks can connect to KPN’s 4G /LTE network with its existing 3G network. This case represents the world’s first commercial application of the solution. BroadForward facilitates this 3G-LTE interworking for HLRs of different generations as functionality included in its network solution, the BFX Interface Gateway.

BFX is the Next Generation Diameter Signaling Controller with a wide range of functionalities for routing and multi-protocol interworking. Voiceworks uses the solution to manage network connectivity and to accelerate the time-to-market of new services. Thanks to the BFX, Voiceworks can enable signaling scenarios between the supplier and technologies such as 3G, 4G, fixed telephony and Wi-Fi without R&D or scripting.

Stijn Nijhuis, CEO of Voiceworks: “We are proud to be nominated for the Best Mobile Technology Award together with BroadForward. It proves our innovation strategy and this cooperation is the way forward. BFX has enabled us to be the first Dutch MVNE offering 4G services, regardless of our network suppliers, resulting in high cost savings”

Taco Schoute, CEO of BroadForward: “The GSMA Awards are the Oscars of the mobile world. They offer the widest and most prestigious acknowledgement of leadership in this industry. It is therefore a great honour to be nominated for the Best Mobile Technology Award. Our product BFX is a ground breaker in the field of technological development in network signaling. Receiving worldwide recognition for local innovative projects helps us demonstrate the unique benefits of our BFX in multi-vendor and multi-technology environments”.
